Recipes tried and tested.

Over the last few months, I've had some inspiration and motivation to try some recipes that were making their way around facebook, and I thought I'd share my experience about the process and how it turned out....

Most recently I tried:

http://www.healyrealfoodvegetarian.com/chia-chocolate-mousse-dairy-free-vegan/

It was quick and simple. Having a handheld coffee grinder helped a lot, to grind up the sugar and the chia seeds to powder. I am sure there are other ways to do it as well.
The flavour and texture is, interesting....but for the combination of the ingredients, it aint bad!
*I added a little bit of maple syrup to "sweeten" it up a bit more, as it was very heavy in the cocoa flavor.

Another dessert I tried:

Banana oat cookies.
No sugar added!
3 mashed ripe bananas
1/3 cup applesauce
2 cups oats
1/2 cups raisins (optional. I actually used chocolate chips, which was lovely!)
1tsp Vanilla
1tsp cinnimon

mix all together, form into the size of cookie you'd like, and bake at 350 for 15-20mins! (depending on your oven, ours seems to be weak, so keep your eye on them to see when they have browned)

They are a perfect little cookie, that aren't too sweet, but perfect if you are wanting a little snack/dessert but aren't wanting to have something packed with too much sugar.

Another recipe, and I think my favorite, and the one I have enjoyed and felt most proud of is:
http://www.frugallivingnw.com/frugal-homemaking/amazing-no-knead-bread-step-by-step-recipe/

This amazing, and simple recipe for bread! I just love it! check out the link above for the directions.
I have made both the regular, and the molasses recipe, and both turned out great. I don't think I've ever been so proud of anything I've ever made....well, except of course Ryder! haha.

A recipe that I wouldn't reccomend, or at least that I did not like the outcome of:
Eggs cooked(baked) in an avocado...
Ingredients:
Whole avocado
Eggs
Cayenne pepper (or any spice of your choice)
... Cheese (optional)

Remove the stone from an avocado. Scoop out a little more avocado to increase the size of the stone's crater. Crack an egg into the crater. Sprinkle with Cayenne pepper (cheese too if you desire). Bake in the oven at 180 degrees until egg is cooked to the level you like.

I just didn't like the texture, or the taste. I love both avocado and eggs, even in the same meal, but not heated up together, or baked eggs for that matter.....

Those are just a few....more to come at a later date!

Enjoy!

Easy, peasy homemade deodorant!

I am happy that I got to get the homemade deodorant made!
The recipe is super simple, and only has 3 ingredients (4 if you count an essential oil, like I did with lavender)

Here is the recipe I used, although there are lots if you just google "homemade deodorant'

Thursday thoughts

As baby boy naps to the sounds of waves, I putter about on the computer. I really should be doing dishes, or tidying up, but don't want to wake him and also, I take all the 'me' time I can get these days ;)
So, I finished up my tea and cookies, and thought I'd write a little post.....of nothing in particular, just a ramble. So bear with me....bare?...bear? Bare, it must be bare. HA!

I've been trying to cut out the amount of "sugary" and "bready" things I eat in a day (and milk). I've done it lots before, I've gone a year gluten free and milk free, my whole pregnancy I cut out all the things you shouldn't eat while pregnant, and I've done a month of a candida cleanse, in the summer might I add when it's the time you want to have a beer and eat pizza, or whatever. But, for some reason, over the last few weeks of wanting to do this, I haven't been able to. I've been best this week, but still could do better. I know part of it is, when it comes time to eat, I find what's quick and easy, because I don't have a lot of time before Ryder needs my full attention again. And also, I just feel like having those 4 cookies in the middle of the afternoon, and why not!? So I go for it. Now, I am wanting to cut these things out, not because I'm worried about weight or calories (i've been thankful and lucky for my metabolism) but because I feel bogged down if I too much of it in one day. My diet is by no means unhealthy, I have a hard time straying away from the healthy organic foods, because it's been my whole life. So, I will most likely eat those cookies AND the apple.
Before I got pregnant, I was not a sweets person, sure I'd have a treat here and there, but I never craved it. About half way through pregnancy, that all changed. As soon as I'd finish a savory meal or even snack, I'd want something sweet. I thought it would pass once I had the baby, but nope. It's still here, strong and dead fast! haha
I do know I'll feel more energy if I cut out the quick engergy boost foods, and cut out the bready things....but then again, I've never had the full energy a late twenty's girl should feel....and that's just fine. it's who I am. I get by. I'm happy. Let's just hope that the energy kicks in more so when Ryder is ready to run around!!

I guess that was about something 'particular'....

For once....

For once this dreary winter isn't getting me down. So it makes me realize even more, that my baby really was what was missing in my life.

Sure, I want the sun and the spring time blossoms, but I am cheered by the sight of my baby's gummy grin, or the sound of his almost fully developed laugh, or having 'conversations' with him.

To see things for the first time again, through his eyes, truly beats out any grey day.
